Story

A three-generation family run restaurant offering high quality cooking with fresh and local ingredients.

Lela’s Taverna opened on August 13, 1983 by Lela Giannakeas along with her two sons, Giorgos and Stavros. The restaurant is located on a seafront family house next to the old olive oil & soap factory of Kardamili. The location offers a beautiful sunset with a breathtaking view facing Kardamili’s port and Meropi’s island.

Lela was for several years the cook at Joan & Patrick Ley Fermor’s house in Kardamili. The restaurant is renowned for Lela’s traditional home-cooked recipes. For a few years, the restaurant was run by Petros, Giorgo’s son, until 2012. The restaurant is now managed by Lela’s son, Giorgos, a cook himself, who continues the family tradition. From 2021, we took a step and decided to change from traditional to a contemporary greek cuisine, though trying to keep as much tradition as possible. With the help of his other son, Kostis, who is the head sommelier of the restaurant, they try to evolve the food and wine, as much as they can.
